Mesmerised by the enchanting surroundings, and this old house on the hill, silent and abandoned, basking in the sunshine and the copious memoriesm of days gone by. Noble and bewitching in her decadence, yet still rich in the precious detail in wich she was built. We were so captivated by her, that it became our priority to preserve her identity. The start of the dream to restore life once again to Le Fontanelle.

The origins of this marvellous hotel can be traced back to the 13th century, thanks to the discovery of original internal stonework, which is still visible in the hotel today. The hotel’s name ‘Le Fontanelle’ derives from the pre-existing water fountains and stone ‘fonts’, which were used for gathering spring water. These were renovated and enlarged during the first half of the 19th century utilising existing medieval materials that were found on site.

This area, originally a rural Etruscan community, was subsequently occupied by the Romans, then in the early Middle Ages by the Longobard population. Over the centuries ‘Le Fontanelle’ has seen various owners and had numerous uses, until finally it became a simple working farmhouse.

It wasn’t until 1999 that restorations began to transform this ancient building into the luxury hotel it is today.
